Week 1 began with the FFAllStars team in a hole, as the team we played against CreativeSports, who picked Reggie Wayne with their first pick. Clearly an attempt to steal a victory with Wayne's points already on the books, the move left them with Maroney, Ronnie Brown and Chester Taylor as their 3 RB's. Besides Wayne, CreativeSports locked up Randy Moss in the 4th and Darrell Jackson in the 5th. In the 8th, they curiously passed on Kellen Winslow at TE in favor of Randy McMichael. Phillip Rivers and Alex Smith (Smith started week 1) were chosen in rounds 9 and 10, and they landed the Patriots D in the 11th.
Our horses for week one were:
10.60 Matt Leinart ARI QB
19.70 Shaun Alexander SEA RB
15.80 Clinton Portis WAS RB
19.30 Tatum Bell DET RB
14.60 Santonio Holmes PIT WR
1.80 Muhsin Muhammad CHI WR
23.70 Terrell Owens DAL WR
25.70 Antonio Gates SDG TE
3.00 Robbie Gould CHI K
6.00 Miami Dolphins MIA D/ST
Total: 140.20
Solid performances out of almost everyone; Leinart did not look good on Monday night, and Muhsin Muhammad's stinker was somewhat expected. We expect Arnaz Battle to fill the 3rd WR position this coming week.
Their team:
9.90 Alex Smith SFO QB
13.20 Ronnie Brown MIA RB
7.20 Laurence Maroney NWE RB
3.10 Chester Taylor MIN RB
30.50 Reggie Wayne IND WR
7.60 Darrell Jackson SFO WR
33.30 Randy Moss NWE WR
4.40 Randy McMichael STL TE
9.60 Josh Brown SEA K
11.00 New England Patriots NWE D/ST
Total: 129.80
Going into Monday night it was all on Darrell Jackson's shoulders, and fortunately he had a very mediocre game. We really didn't expect to be able to match up with Wayne and Moss, but we got lucky with the Taylor injury. Ronnie Brown ended up with a decent day, solely based on his receptions. Portis and Brown were only a couple points difference yet Portis found the end-zone while Brown did not. This will be a recurring problem for FFAll-Stars, as Alexander and Portis are not pass-catching backs. Hopefully Alexander gets his wish and is targeted more in the passing game!
The Awards:
Bust of the Week: Muhsin Muhammad - Completely ineffective, he won't be cut, but his days as a starter on our team are probably over.
Lex Luthor Villian of the Week: Randy Moss - We were sick watching Moss decimate the Jets defense. Despite his killer numbers, he also got stopped at the one yard line, which would have made this one even closer. Making it out of Week 1 and not having to face Moss or Wayne again in the regular season will make me sleep better at night.
MVP of the Week: Tatum Bell - It's hard not to acknowledge Gates here, because he saved our week. But, he was our third round choice. T.O. had a great week, but he was our number two. Bell, on the other hand, was our fifth round pick, and scored as many points as our number one. Without Tatum's solid all-around performance, we start the season 0-1. So for this week, the case of Krusovice goes to Tatum Bell.
We'll post our projected lineup and opponent later in the week, and don't be afraid to send us your feedback about our WCOFF Team!
